Understanding Reproductive and Perinatal Trauma
The symptoms you may be experiencing as someone who has gone through a traumatic event can be distressing in your day to day life. You may find that you are constantly replaying, or avoiding the memory. You may also be experiencing anxiety, anger or hyper vigilance, all of these can really start to affect your confidence and ability to cope in your day to day life, if it is going on for a long time.

You may find that you have started to ask yourself will these difficult or heavy feelings ever leave? Am I going to always feel like this?

Our fight and flight response is one of our most primitive survival systems and has been created to enable us to act when we feel like we are faced with life threatening danger. When we have experienced a traumatic event, the body does not know the difference between being in the actual event and our memory replaying the event. The fear and high emotions and feelings of helplessness present during the trauma can become inextricably and biologically connected to the memory of the event.

If we look at it from a neurological viewpoint, these symptoms can be liked to a faulty alarm that is being triggered and then going off for no reason. As someone experiencing PTSD symptoms, the fight or flight response is being triggered even when there is no present danger. Constantly reliving the experience is bringing up the feelings over and over each time.

The rational, thinking part of your brain (our pre frontal cortex) can be liked to that of a security guard in this scenario. They are trying to reassure the tenant (the traumatised person) that all is ok but they cannot be heard over the sound of the loud alarm. This is why advice or well intentioned support from others to try to move on from what has happened is pointless because the connection that has been made is so strong and incredibly difficult for the person to rationalize or just stop the thoughts or feelings. This is where the 3-Step Rewind technique can help you.
What is the 3 step rewind programme?
3 Step rewind is a process that can be used to support a person when they are struggling with difficult feelings associated with a particular experience in their lives.

Rewind is not a therapy, I am not a psychotherapist, it is a process that is used to bring relief to difficult emotional responses that are connected to a particular event that has happened in your life. The technique is most commonly used to support those who may identify as having experienced perinatal, birth or breast feeding trauma and here at Women’s Wellbeing Ireland it has also successfully been used to support women with reproductive trauma and indeed other experiences that they have found traumatic. It is understanding that you will retain the memory of your experience in full, but the emotional response that the memory has been evoking for you will be reduced.
Who is the TBR 3-Step Rewind for?
Any event that you feel caused feelings of trauma during your fertility or perinatal period.
A lengthy fertility journey.
Failed cycle and loss.
Not feeling in control or listened to.
Pregnancy loss. Recurrent loss.
Pregnancy complications.
Poor pre or post natal care.
C-Section .
Traumatic birth experience.
A difficult breastfeeding journey.

The benefits of the 3 Step Rewind Process
It is a brief therapy intervention, that creates relief from PTSD symptoms after 2 or 3 sessions. It can be either in person or online, at your own pace and with the support of a trained practitioner.
On occasion the process may to be repeated but in most of cases people report a significant decrease or complete elimination of their symptoms and heavy feelings.

If you feel uncomfortable talking about the traumatic experience, with the process, there is no need the share what happened to you. You can remember it yourself but you can do so without having to re-tell or talk about your experience. There is of course the option to do so, if this is something you do want to do.
​
This treatment is equally effective 4 months after your experience or if it is 4 years or even longer after your experience. If you find your are still having heavy feelings, or PTSD symptoms after your experience, then the 3 Step Rewind treatment is helpful in eliminating them. Or if you feel that you are having unhelpful responses in your day to day life, as a result of your experience, then this treatment can help you with that.

The 3 x sessions are €195.
They are spaced over a period of 4 weeks. Each session is circa 60 minutes in duration.
Sessions 1 & 2 are a week apart.
Session 3 can be up to 2 weeks post session 2.
